    What is the problem?

  • The linenfold panelling of c1500 is rapidly deteriorating because of lack of ventilation between it and the wall behind;
  • It is also suffering from centuries of wear and tear;
  • The 18th Century Georgian altar rail and gate has been extensively damaged over the centuries;
  • The east wall panelling and reredos (c1900) also need restoration.
  • What needs to be done?

  • Small ventilation holes are needed to allow the panelling to “breathe”;
  • Woodworm needs treatment;
  • Damage to the panelling needs to be repaired;
  • The altar gate needs to be reassembled and rehung;
  • The bases and capitals of the rails must be repaired;
  • The east wall panelling and reredos also need restoration;
  • Cleaning and polishing with beeswax polish;
  • The work will be done by a specialist restoration firm.

  • The Matching Grant Challenge

  • A benefactor has made a matching grant challenge to everyone who loves St Laurence's and the Palmers' Chapel
  • For every new Palmer who makes a donation, the benefactor will match it up to a total of £1,500.
  • UK taxpayers can have their contribution enhanced by 25% through Gift Aid
  • Meeting the Challenge in this way could in this way produce £3,750 towards our target.
