Ludlow Palmers
helping to conserve the fabric and treasures of St Laurence's
Ann Price

This tablet is situated high up in the north-east corner of St John's Chapel. The Baroque design has a heraldic crest with the arms of Price and Sprott in the first and second quarters and unkown arms in the lower two.

The monument is an intriguing one because despite apparently being a monument to Ann its text refers only to her birth, her death and her loyal adherence to her late husband's doctrines. Most of the text is more about him than her.

The date of Ann's death appears to have been inserted subsequently, so one might suppose that it was commissioned by Ann herself before her death and was intended as a joint tribute to them both. It would also explain any reticence as to her own virtues which, we must conjecture, were many.
